What's new for composite applications in this release

For this release, there have been a number of features, improvements, and changes made in the area of composite application support.. Highlights include the following:

• Components based on XPages - Components based on XPages can be developed with Domino® Designer. These components can be deployed in composite applications and Lotus® Mashups. Users can also include XPages application(s) in composite applications by including their client XPage application as an NSF component and have it interact with other components like the PIM component and Google widget. Application developers can enable an XPages application to fully participate in the composite application model by adding JavaScript code or simple actions to publish and receive events and process parameters.
• XPages support for Notes Client - The introduction of this feature means that the power of XPages comes to the Notes client and composite applications to let you develop new, compelling, and visually attractive applications for the client. This means that you can develop an application once and it will run on both the client and a browser without the duplication of effort that previous application development scenarios required. It is not necessary to have Designer installed to run XPages.
• Generic container framework support - The generic application container framework is a set of extensions for applications (Web Applications, Spreadsheets, host on demand, etc.) that are contained within a single view part. For instance, a web application with many pages.
• Web Application container - A web application consists of multiple web pages running within the context of a single application. A web application may spawn several other Eclipse views, but each browser view spawned has the same primary view ID as that of the main application view part. A web application container harnesses much of the core container layer, and creates a web application within a composite application.
• Component windowing actions and events - Open, Close, Minimize, Maximize, Clone
• Side shelf integration - wire to and from the side shelf and components in composite application
• Set of default navigators - Button, Tab, Breadcrumb as well as APIs for custom navigators
• Improvements to component wiring and working with wiring properties
• Improvements to the Composite Application Editor user interface, wiring capabilities, etc.

In finding information on new features for this new release, you are directed to a specific area of online plugin help. To have this help installed on your machine, you must have that particular piece of software installed on your machine. For example, to access the online help for the Composite Application Editor, you must have the Editor installed on your machine. It is offered as a feature that you can install when you install the Notes client. Refer to the installation instructions of the desired software for more information.
